Hi everyone, I hope you are all well. For those taking history of education I wonder what your thoughts are on the textbook we had to buy. When I started reading it I thought " what the hell is this". Then I realized it was written in the heyday of social darwinism. I particularly liked page 8 where he describes my family in Australia as "savages" with " arrested social development". Pity there is nothing more contemporary to use as a text.

ReplyDeleteAs you may have noticed from my class posts I had the same response! Obviously a Eurocentric viewpoint that sees no value in "nature peoples" "savagery" ;P
